My time at Community College of Rhode Island...

I started my career in computers as a part-time computer lab assistant at the Community College of Rhode Island where I was also taking classes, and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction. I finally had the opportunity to help people outside my family with computer problems. In the process, I learned a lot about managing my time at the workplace, and I'm sure I picked up some additional computer skills as well. I would've loved to work here longer, but I transferred to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth the very next semester. That's where I obtained my computer science degree at the peak of the Covid-19 lockdown. When many people were leaving or losing their full-time jobs due to the pandemic, I was just beginning to look for one.

My time at Fall River Public Schools...

When I think back to my time as a computer technician for Fall River Public Schools, the first thing that comes to my mind is the awesome team I worked with. We'd spend many hours fixing up computers and maintaining district-wide technology before heading off to our respective buildings to take care of the students and faculty there. I was assigned Matthew J. Kuss Middle School, and I was proud to serve as their onsite IT person. This was quite an intense and fulfilling role because remote learning had just become mainstream, and almost everyone needed technological support. Learning about Google-based hardware and software was also interesting as I didn't have too much exposure to it beforehand.

My time at Convention Data Services...

My desire to focus on more software-oriented work led me to becoming a product support specialist at Convention Data Services. I was on a team that supported a large suite of in-house applications. True to the company's name, I've worked with databases quite a bit since joining. Feeling the need to hone in on development work, I eventually became a software analyst and then a software developer/engineer, both on integrations teams. Since then, APIs have become my bread and butter. The work I've done and the things I've learned while being on these teams have opened my mind to the software development life cycle. Like FRPS, the folks at CDS have been amazing. Today, CDS is a part of Maritz's Business Event Solutions industry.
